For the White Area, there was a saving of 3360W whilst obtaining higher lux levels than the previous installation.  For the packaging area counts up to 1256W in energy saving.

Given the extensive presence of daylight within the Packaging Area, it was installed a lighting system which is controlled via an intelligent system that automatically exploits the contribution of daylight from the large overhead skylight and lateral windows, thus providing lighting when, where and in the quantities it is required.  It is estimated that in this way we gained  50% saving on energy usage.

Energy efficiency in electricity and water consumption within business can significantly contribute to the competitive edge of the Maltese private sector in the light of increasing energy costs negatively affecting the operating margins of business.  Reducing on energy and water costs, it can help business become more competitive both within the EU internal market as well as on the international market.

The Magro Brothers Foods Ltd, in collaboration with the Malta Enterprise, worked on a project partially co-financed by EU funds on Eco-Innovation project.  Basically the project initiated by a detailed study of our two main production areas and a proposal for energy saving system was done.

The lighting of the two production areas has been improved with a better more efficient lighting.  In both areas T5 technology has been used.  T5 offers better efficacy which translates in a better lumen/watt output thus reducing the power required to illuminate a given area.
