In the first week of 2008, Magro Brothers hosted 2 meetings for farmers, one in Malta and one in Gozo. For the Malta meeting the Minster for Rural Affairs and the Environment, the Hon. George Pullicino was the main speaker and both meetings where addressed by high officials from the Department of Agriculture. They gave explanations for the new "decoupled aid scheme" introduced by the European Union and announced that the subsidy for tomato growing is to be increased as from the next season.

Magro Brothers announced a price increase of 15% for the tomatoes which they will purchase during the next season. Mr John Magro, chairman of the Magro Brothers Group of Companies announced also that they will be contracting with their associated farmers organisations for increased quantities of tomatoes for the next season.

This is a further commitment of Magro Brothers towards the sustainability and development of the Maltese and Gozitan agricultural sector. Mr Magro also expressed his satisfaction in the way local farmers have strived over the years to achieve the position they are in today and at the co-operation of farmers to participate in their Producers Organisations.
