On the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the well known local Three Hills Brand “Kunserva”, Magro Brothers organized a competition for all schoolchildren over Malta & Gozo. More than 1,000 schoolchildren of all ages took part. The theme of the competition was “The Journey of the Tomato” which gave the budding artists plenty of scope to use their imagination.
Independent judges came to one unanimous conclusion with the winner being Jonathan Young from the Sacred Heart Seminary Victoria Gozo. Judges were impressed with the kids’ creativity. Entries from many schools varied with the youngest competitor from the primary schools to the oldest 15 year olds form V students.
“It was stunning. It was evident that in most paintings a lot of effort was done by both students. There are so many excellent entries and the standard is so high” Some of the judges comments.
In fact, due to this high standard of the drawings Magro Brothers will soon put up all entries on their website www.magro.com.mt and already planned to exhibit all drawings in the near future.
On Wednesday 2nd December, winner Jonathan Young, the 12 year old Form 2 student attending the Minor Sacred Heart Seminary in Gozo, was officially presented with the €1,000 voucher for Euro Disney. It was a big surprise to both Jonathan and his parents. The very shy student from Xaghra Gozo was speechless. Mrs. Young who attended the ceremony, and on behalf of her husband who could not attend, thanked Mr. John Magro, Chairman of Magro Brothers, in front of the packed hall of students at the Sacred Heart Seminary who cheered the winner. Mr. Magro presented also a cheque of €750 to Headmaster Fr Noel Saliba as the winning school. Fr Saliba congratulated Mr Magro and his company for involving themselves in the community with such activities.
