Visit by Ministers Hon Silvio Schembri & Hon Clint Camilleri

Today, 13th of April 2021, the Minister Hon Silvio Schembri, Minister for the Economy and Industry and Hon Clint Camilleri, Minister for Gozo, visited The Magro Food Village in Xewkija, Gozo. They were welcomed by Mr. Christian Magro and were given a tour around the complex. They were introduced to some employees and at the end of the visit, a press conference was addressed to the media. The two Ministers and Mr Magro did a small speech each and answered questions by journalists.

Below are some outlines of what was addressed.

Over the past 2 years the Magro Brothers Group of Companies invested over € 1.5 million in the Manufacturing Sector in Gozo as detailed below :

• A new line dedicated to transform locally grown tomatoes into convenient reusable packaging including glass jars.
• Upgraded facilities and technology in the dairy sector to further enhance the product range offered.
• Research and development project on the dairy sector.
• Various Research & Development Projects to improve product offering and increase convenience.
• Other substantial investments in specialised manufacturing software to allow full traceability through the operation and the creation of 2 new websites allowing online sales.
• Due to Brexit we had to invest in setting up of a new overseas office in Ireland in addition to the office we hold in UK.
• Research & Development Projects aimed to tap new export markets.
• A substantial investment was done in the construction of display stands to be used in different International Food Fairs to showcase our diverse range of products.

These new investments should result in a higher level of employment within the Magro Brothers Group of Companies in our island of Gozo.

Some of the companies within the Magro Brothers Group of Companies have benefitted both from the COVID-19 wage supplement and from the Covid-19 MDB loan assist scheme. Through these aids the Group has managed to avoid any redundancies in such challenging times.

Magro Brothers (Foods) Ltd actively participates in various activities organised by Trade Malta to promote their products overseas. These include assistance in foreign trade fairs, overseas delegations & conferences and market intelligence. During 2020, 40% of the company’s turnover was exported to several countries in 4 continents.

Magro Brothers have several exciting products in the pipeline for the coming years which should increase the Company’s turnover both locally and overseas.
